<p>I'm guessing that the woman we see in the second cinematic trailer is Anna, Ellie's mother. I'm guessing that she was somehow sort-of-infected in the Clicker attack that we cut away from. I'm also expecting that <i>in utero</i> Infection had somehow caused Ellie to develop a natural immunity or a kind of weird symbiosis with Cordyceps. </p><p>However, as this is The Last of Us, I can't shake the feeling that there is going to be a horrible last reel revelation in Part II on a par with the revelation that Marlene wanted Ellie dead at the end of Part I. Maybe Anna had decided that the Seraphim were a useful tool to restore order to the world and had taken over the organisation? Maybe the last decision the player has to take is whether Ellie will execute <i>her own mother</i> for her crimes against all survivors? </p>

<p>This has been a very interesting thread. On one hand, you have the somewhat expected plot twist of the unnamed woman in the trailer being Ellie's mom. On the other, you have BenRG's take on things. Personally, I kinda hope it's the latter theory, but that might be a bit too dark, even for a game that is said to be about hate. </p>

<p>Hi sorry is this has been written as im only new here </p><p>a couple of reasons I believe that the only reason driving Ellie to be in the world and killing again would be : </p><p>1) Her girlfriend / Joel has been murdered or kidnapped so she is going to save her/him its also a good way for the fireflies to bring her to them. </p><p>2) Maybe she is looking for her mum or made to believe her mum or a family member is out there somewhere? </p><p>those are the only reasons I can see her on the move from where she is at. </p><p>sorry again if this has been speculated :) </p>

<p>Yeah. The amount of repeated ideas and the fact this thread is getting necroed at least once a month is testament to how old and long it is. I'm growing tempted to simply close this one and open a new one as a continuation, save this one growing so long and painstakingly repetitive. </p>

<p>Neil Druckmann and the folks at Naughty Dog said that at least 90% of the story will be about hate. </p><p>And judging from the trailers, it's safe to assume Ellie goes full-on <i>Revenant </i>mode. </p>

<p>I prefer Naughty Dog to Capcom. For years, Capcom has destroyed their franchises. Naughty Dog takes their time. Do you notice the really big gap between sequels? 2013 to 2020! Imagine if we got a new sequel every 2 years, and they were all lukewarm at best. I'd truly hate for that to happen... </p>

<p>I can't see anything produced by ND not being at least good. That said, everyone has their personal theories, pet fanons and head-canons about TLoU and its characters. It is a statistical impossibility that these will all survive the game so I'm expecting a lot of bitterness, no matter the nature of the game. Sort of the huge backlash from the Joel/Ellie shippers when ND made it clear she is queer. </p>
