Malidore was the captain of a ferry stationed in San Diego in 2013. After the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, Malidore permitted 35 people from the city to board his ferry so they could sail to Vancouver and escape the chaos the infection had caused the city to fall into by October 2, 2013. While personally unconvinced some of the passengers had contracted the infection, passenger Josephine Roberts argued to him that some had indeed contracted it, notably the several people in the infirmary, including Barnes and Quinn. Malidore's crewmen mostly sided with his decision to not take further action on the infected passengers, though at least one crew member believed Malidore was avoiding the potential crisis that not dealing with known infected passengers could bring.
On October 5 at 07:30, Malidore was informed Barnes had escaped the infirmary and was on a rampage around the ferry. Malidore soon learned Josephine had found him by 14:50 and forced the now runner overboard. However, Malidore still dismissed Josephine's request to scan all those in the infirmary with CBI scanners and execute them, deflecting that the scanners they had were faulty.
However, the next day, more people in the infirmary had transformed into runners, leading Josephine to kill them all by 21:00. Malidore figured out it was her and confronted her in his cabin later that night. Concurrently, other passengers turned into runners and began attacking the remaining non-infected passengers. Josephine and Malidore proceeded to shoot one another, with Malidore managing to kill Josephine almost instantly while he was left to bleed out from the arrow shot by her crossbow. With infected pounding on his door, he barricaded it as best he could before using the last of his strength to turn the ferry towards Seattle's port in the hope some of the passengers would survive and could flee into the city. He then finished his entry into his log book before bleeding out.
