Biography

Background

Alec was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak. He was married to Joyce and had a daughter with her, Hannah. The three were religious Christians and eventually joined David's group of fellow Christian survivors sometime between 2017 and 2023. Alec was well liked, considered a close friend to James, Timothy, Josiah and Marco. By 2023, after encountering raiders, the group settled in Silver Lake, Colorado.

Events of HBO's The Last of Us

During the winter of 2023, David sent Alec and three other members of their group to search the University of Eastern Colorado for supplies. While at the former Fireflies' base, Alec noticed Joel and Ellie trying to escape on a horse with lots of supplies. Armed with a baseball bat, Alec charged at Joel, but the man managed to dodge his strike and out muscle him, breaking his neck in their resulting fight. However, Alec managed to stab Joel in the fight with his shattered bat, leading the pair to flee as Alec's friends raced to help him.

The remaining three brought Alec's body back to Silver Lake where a funeral was held for him in Todd's Steakhouse. David led the sermon, reciting the Book of Revelation from the Bible and comforted Alec's daughter, Hannah, that Alec was free from pain and that a better life awaited him. Hannah, heartbroken, asked when she could bury her father. David claimed they had to wait for spring, because the ground was frozen and impossible to dig. However, David, James and others secretly carved Alec's corpse up to serve as food to the group the following night. Later, Alec's ear was seen on the floor in the kitchen. Alec's death also filled many in the group with a lust for vengeance, leading them to eventually track and captured Ellie and fight Joel to avenge him, their efforts ultimately failing.

• Although he first appeared in episode 6, "Kin", Alec's name and background as part of David's group was not revealed until episode 8, "When We Are in Need".
