Bethany is a supporting character in the first season of HBO's The Last of Us. She was an attendee of the FEDRA preparatory school in the Boston quarantine zone.[1]

Bethany was born sometime after the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak and attended the FEDRA preparatory school in the Boston quarantine zone. Before the summer of 2023, Bethany was placed in charge of Ellie and Riley's platoon. She noticed how Riley got into fights to protect Ellie, leading her to think Ellie was soft and cowardly.[1]
Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]
In the summer of 2023, Bethany led a training session in the FEDRA gymnasium. While running, she noticed Ellie (listening to music on her Walkman) was not keeping pace with the rest of her platoon. She raced up to her and snatched the Walkman from her. She then insisted Ellie run faster, else face a punishment. Ellie remarked she did not want a fight, leading Bethany to slyly remark Ellie lacked Riley to help her this time. Unfortunately, Bethany underestimated both Ellie's strength and how much the comment would anger her. Ellie proceeded to beat Bethany up, sending her to the infirmary with fifteen stitches.[1]

Bethany was a teenage girl with long brown hair tied in a braid. She wore a FEDRA trainee uniform.[1]
Personality[]
According to Kwong, Bethany was a bully by nature and thrived on picking on those she perceived weaker than herself. She was also cowardly as, by Ellie's own admission, Bethany only picked on her because Riley was no longer around to stand up for her. Despite this, she did have leadership qualities as she led her platoon during the training and Kwong admitted she would likely become a patrol leader when she graduated.[1]
