Building The Last of Us is a web series uploaded to the Naughty Dog YouTube channel in promotion of HBO's The Last of Us. It features members of the development team behind the The Last of Us video game as they discuss the game's creation and behind the scenes while creatives and the cast behind HBO's The Last of Us explain bringing the scenes to live-action. The series premiered on January 18, 2023.

Members of the development team break down the work that went into its creation and elevating it with the power of the PS5 with Part I, while creatives behind the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us discuss bringing the memorable sequence to live-action.
2 "Blooming Terror"[2] 5 min January 24, 2023
In the second installment of Naughty Dog's new series, Building The Last of Us, developers from the Naughty Dog team dig into some of the creation of one of The Last of Us' most well-known enemies: the clickers. Developers from Naughty Dog and PlayStation dig into the art, sound, animation, and origins of bringing the clickers to life in The Last of Us, including insight into the iconic sound of clickers, the way The Last of Us' clickers move, and a look at never-before-seen clicker concept art.

Additionally, in episode 2 of Building The Last of Us, "Blooming Terror", executive producers from HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, discuss the philosophy behind adapting action from The Last of Us games into the live-action version of The Last of Us. Druckmann discusses his TV directorial debut with The Last of Us' second episode on HBO, and one of the original voices of the clickers reflects on the enduring legacy of these foes as they make their live-action debut.

The Last of Us introduces players to a post-pandemic world full of humans and infected trying to endure and survive. With the intention of showcasing that world through the eyes of Joel and Ellie, members of the Naughty Dog team discuss their approach to revealing the state of this world and its inhabitants in the latest episode of our series, Building The Last of Us. While taking an overall look at the game, the Naughty Dog team discusses primarily The Last of Us' iconic locations, the Boston QZ and Bill's Town.

Members of the Naughty Dog team discuss the artistic, animation, and creative approaches to building and defining these spaces, what they mean for the play experience, and more.

Plus, members of The Last of Us on HBO's creative team and cast discuss the adaptation of The Last of Us to live-action, including its faithfulness to the original game, as well as how the TV show offers new insight into The Last of Us' characters and locations.

In the fourth installment of Naughty Dog's new series, Building The Last of Us, dive into the overall story of Ellie and Joel throughout The Last of Us Part I. Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, along with the stars behind Ellie and Joel in both the game, Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, and The Last of Us on HBO, Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, discuss the journey their characters go on, their relationship with one another, and how they work together to endure and survive throughout their travels across a post-pandemic United States.

The stars and Druckmann break down some of their characters' motivations, the emotional growth their characters undergo, and what their story comes to represent.

In the fifth installment of Naughty Dog's series, Building The Last of Us, dive into the experiences of Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, now that the pair of actors have been both part of The Last of Us games and HBO series.

Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann discusses bringing the Ellie and Joel actors into the show in different roles, the excitement of seeing Johnson and Baker tackle new material, and more. Plus, the actors reflect on the legacy of having been part of The Last of Us for nearly a decade, the thrill of being part of both the games and the show, and their excitement in seeing Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as Ellie and Joel in live-action.
