Render modes or filters are unlockable bonuses in The Last of Us and extras in The Last of Us Part II and The Last of Us Part I.

Overview[]

In The Last of Us and The Last of Us Remastered, the player can earn in-game currency by completing various tags. After completing the game's story, they can use their earned currency to unlock bonuses, which include render modes, skins, and concept art. Each render mode can be unlocked with $100. Enabling a render mode will only change the appearance or color overlay of the game, and nothing else.

Render modes return in The Last of Us Part II, introduced after the Grounded Update on August 13, 2020. Similar to the game's prequel, the player can earn points by finding collectibles, earning trophies, and completing the game on higher difficulties. Earned points can be spent to unlock render modes, concept art, character models, and gameplay modifiers. Each render mode costs 5 points.

In The Last of Us Part I, render modes return, but are instead labeled as "Filters". As with previous releases, the player can earn points through gameplay, which can be used to unlock filters. Each filter cost 5P.
