Biography

Background

Not much is known about Earl's background, except that they are a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak who eventually joined the community of survivors living in Jackson, Wyoming. He worked his way up to be a patrolman by 2028 and would go out on patrols.

Events of HBO's The Last of Us

Season 2

In the final week of 2028, he went out on patrol and forgot to put the safety on his sidearm, leading to him accidentally shooting himself in the leg. News of this spread to people in the town, including Tommy. On January 1 2029, Tommy mentioned the incident when reminding people to check their safety was on their guns in case infected and raiders attacked the town. The reminder of the story caused one listener to call out "don't be Earl", causing the crowd to briefly laugh about Earl's error.
