Various types of ammo
Ammunition can be scavenged for use in various projectile weapons in The Last of Us, Factions MP and The Last of Us Part II. It is a scarce and valuable commodity in the post-infection era.
Overview[]
Ammunition is limited and widely sought after by friend and foe alike. When first obtaining a gun, players start with a set amount of ammunition for that weapon.[1] Players typically have to scavenge from dead enemies to retrieve more ammunition.[2] The amount players receive is determined by how much ammunition they currently possess: the less ammunition a player has, the more ammunition the enemy will drop for them to take. However, the amount of ammunition players can find also decreases when playing on harder difficulties. Players can also find ammunition within safes.[3] In Factions MP, the player can also obtain ammunition by purchasing it using the points they acquire while playing a match.
Although, there are some weapons, like the bow and double barrel shotgun, where the player can craft the ammunition for them instead. In The Last of Us Part II, players can craft arrows, explosive arrows and incendiary shells.[4][5]
Players also can't collect or craft ammunition infinitely, instead only able to carry a certain amount based on the type of gun they are collecting ammunition for. The only way to carry infinite ammunition is by enabling the infinite ammunition cheat found within The Last of Us Part II; this cheat is not useable in The Last of Us.
Enemy and friendly AI characters are exempt from the ammunition limitation. As such, they never run out of ammunition and can engage in combat infinitely. This especially applies to the sniper in Pittsburgh,[6] and during boss fights against David,[7] Tommy and Ellie.[8]
