The Fort Duquesne Bridge is a location in The Last of Us.[1]
History[]
Background[]
The bridge is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, the United States military used it under FEDRA's orders to bring supplies into the city for the quarantine zone. However, residents within the city eventually rose up and rebelled against the military's rule. While driving the military out from the city, the bridge was damaged at some point.[2]
After the residents removed the military from power, they degraded into murderous hunters who turned to capturing people trying to pass through the city, killing them and taking their supplies.[3] To better catch wandering travelers, the hunters secured the bridge, fortifying the entrance to it into a sniper's nest to ensure no survivors could sneak through, and kill any wandering infected in the area. During the days, several hunters were posted there, but at night the bridge was left protected by a skeleton crew, making it vulnerable to coordinated attacks.[4]
Events of The Last of Us[]
By the summer of 2033, Joel Miller and Ellie Williams wandered into the city and allied with fellow travelers Sam and Henry. The group found the fortifications around the bridge and deduced they needed to attack it at night to sneak through. They succeeded, making it to the bridge. However, they were then separated. Ellie and Joel were chased by the hunters' Humvee down the bridge, finding the middle of it destroyed. With no other choice, the pair jumped from the bridge into the water below to escape the hunters.[1]
