Gavin was a soldier within the Washington Liberation Front. He worked with a woman named Alison and was stationed with her and a man named Derek at the Serevena Hotel. In 2038, Derek was heavily wounded by a broken window and Alison had to take him for medical assistance, leaving Gavin to man their outpost alone. Alison left Gavin a note about the incident and ordered him to retrieve supplies she had stashed at the West 2 checkpoint, informing him that the code to get through would be the same as the old code.[1]
