Hanrahan is a supporting character in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us.

Biography

Background and early life

Little is known about Hanrahan except that she was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak. She lived in the Seattle quarantine zone by 2018 under FEDRA's control. However, she hated their oppressive rule and joined the WLF resistance to overthrow them. She got in contact with FEDRA Sergeant Isaac Dixon and arranged for him to defect to her group.

Events of HBO's The Last of Us

Season 2

In 2018, Hanrahan had her group block Isaac's known patrol route through WLF-controlled territory with a school bus. Isaac arrived and exited the vehicle, ordering his men not to shoot. Hanrahan then revealed herself from the crowd of the WLF, approaching Isaac who had brought Burton with him. Isaac then returned to the car, tossing in two frag grenades and locked Janowicz and the others inside, the blast killing them. The wounded driver fell from the car, Isaac executing him with his assault rifle. He then returned and shook Hanrahan's hand, officially joining their resistance. He then offered Burton the choice to join him and Hanrahan's cause.

By 2029, Hanrahan was now a commanding officer stationed at Lakehill Seattle hospital. While here, she ordered Sergeant Elise Park's unit to clear it out to prepare it as a base to use in the war. However, after the Seraphites broke their latest truce with the WLF, Hanrahan was informed Elise had locked a squad of her soldiers in the basement and killed them, including her own son Leon Park. Perplexed, she brought Elise in for questioning. Sharing cigarettes together, Hanrahan let Elise inform of her of what happened. Elise revealed she had Leon and the others clear everywhere except the basement levels: B1, 2 and 3. An older member of the unit suspected they had not been searched since the hospital was quarantined shortly after outbreak day. She ordered Leon and his squad to clear B1 anyway but they found it completely deserted. The following day, she gave them permission to clear B2. When they did so, Leon radioed back that they had discovered a mass of Cordyceps all over the corridors but that it was airborne, emitted by spores from the trapped patients. Scared it could get out of the hospital and kill all of the WLF, Elise made the difficult decision to trap Leon and the others in the basement, barricading the two doors to B2 and B3. Shocked at how severe the spores were, Hanrahan called Elise a hero and express her sympathies for losing Leon to the infection.
