Hydroelectric Dam[]

[Amongst a black background, "FALL" in bold white letters appear at the bottom right of the screen. The screen cuts to a shot of distant scenery, and the camera pans down to reveal Ellie Williams and Joel Miller on a mountain trail. They approach a sign welcoming them to Jackson County, Wyoming.]

Ellie: Jackson County. Means we're close to Jackson city, right?

Joel: Shouldn't be more than a few miles.

Ellie: You ready to see dear old brother?

[The player now takes control of Joel as they continue down the trail.]

Joel: I'm just ready to get there.

Ellie: You nervous?

Joel: I don't know what I'm feeling.

[The road washes out ahead.]

Ellie: So much for this road.

Joel: You just follow the river, it'll lead us straight to Tommy's. C'mon.

[They drop down towards the river and follow it downstream.]

Ellie: What happened between you two?

Joel: What do you mean?

Ellie: You and Tommy… you're not together, so clearly something went down.

Joel: We just had a bit of a disagreement, that's all.

Ellie: Ah, here we go… so what was it about?

Joel: Tommy saw the world one way, I saw it the other.

Ellie: And that's why he joined the Fireflies?

Joel: [Scoffs] Yeah, your friend Marlene promised him hope. That kept him busy for a while, but just like Tommy, he eventually quit that too.

Ellie: How was it, the last time you saw him?

Joel: [Clicks tongue] I believe his last words to me were, "I don't ever want to see your goddamn face again."

Ellie: Jeez. But he's gonna help us?

Joel: I suppose we're gonna find out.

Ellie: Well, with or without his help, we'll get there.

Joel: Let's just keep going.

[The pair come to a large hydroelectric power plant spanning the river.]

Ellie: Whoa… what's that?

Joel: That right there is a hydroelectric power plant.

Ellie: [Chuckles] Wha… A… hydra who?

Joel: It, uh… it uses the river's movement and, uh, turns it into electricity.

Ellie: How's it do that?

Joel: Look, I know what it is, I don't know how it does it.

Ellie: All right… how are we getting across?

[They ascend a staircase leading to the dam. Joel turns a crank wheel that rotates half of a platform from out of the water.]

Ellie: Well, that gets us halfway. If we get the other one up, we'll make it across.

[Joel jumps into the water.]

Joel: I'll find something. Just hang tight.

[He dives underwater and frees a wooden pallet wedged in a submerged structure, bringing it to the surface. He goes to push the pallet to Ellie.]

Joel: All right, Ellie, I need you to—

Ellie: I know, step on the fucking pallet.

[Ellie jumps on the pallet and Joel ferries her to the other side.]

Joel: Go on, give it a spin.

[Ellie cranks the wheel, raising the other side of the platform, forming a bridge. Joel climbs out of the water and starts crossing it.]

Ellie: Hey, be careful crossing that thing.

Joel: I will.

[He crosses as Ellie waits on the other side. She raises her hand for a high-five.

Ellie: Teamwork.

[Joel will be given the choice to return Ellie's high-five or ignore it.]

Ellie: [If the player returns the high-five] Yeah.

Ellie: [If the player keeps walking] Really? Just gonna leave me hanging? All right, I see how it is. It's just a high-five, it takes, like, five seconds.

[They drop off the walkway to the left and pass a small campsite. They vault over a fallen log to find a small grave with a teddy bear sat on top. Interacting with it will trigger the ? optional conversation of the game.]

Joel: That's too small of a grave.

Ellie: [Sighs] I forgot to leave that stupid robot on his grave. What should I do with it?

Joel: Ellie…

Ellie: What? I want to talk about it.

Joel: No.

Ellie: Why not?

Joel: How many times do we need to go over this? Things happen… and we move on.

Ellie: It's just—

Joel: [Sternly interjects] That's enough.

Ellie: [Sighs] You're right. I'm sorry.

Joel: Let's get to Tommy's.

[They backtrack and climb their way up to the outer walls of the power plant.]

Ellie: Aughh, I'm so hungry.

Joel: I know, I am too.

Ellie: All right, next squirrel I see, I'm totally shooting it.

Joel: Let's get past this place, then we can scrounge up some food.

Ellie: Well, if I starve, you're responsible.

[They reach the main entrance to the plant. They notice the road leading out is blocked.]

Ellie: Uh… should we head in?

Joel: Ah, ain't no way around. Gonna have to cut through the plant.

[Joel goes to open the entrance. The cinematic "How you doing, baby brother?" begins. He attempts to nudge open the gates when suddenly, armed guards atop the dam's walls aim their weapons down at Joel and Ellie. The leader, Maria, addresses them.]

Maria: Don't even think about reaching for your weapon. [Ellie draws her pistol.] Tell the girl to drop hers. Now!

Joel: [Backing up] Ellie, do as the lady says.

Ellie: [Raises her hands] Okay…

Maria: Please tell me you're lost.

Joel: We didn't know the place was occupied. We're just trying to make our way through.

Maria: Through to where?

Tommy: [Offscreen] They're all right.

Maria: [To Tommy] What, you know these people?

Tommy: I know him [Camera pans to Tommy, opening the gate while holding a rifle.] He's my goddamn brother.

Joel: Tommy.

Tommy: Holy shit. [Embraces Joel]

Joel: [Chuckles in disbelief] How you doin', baby brother?

Tommy: Goddamn.

Joel: Yeah.

Tommy: Let me look at you. [Pulls away and looks at Joel.] You got fucking old.

Joel: [Knocks Tommy's arm away] Easy—it's gonna happen to you too.

Tommy: [Maria walks beside him, still holding her rifle.] This is Maria. Be nice to her, she sorta runs things around here.

Joel: [To Maria] Ma'am. Thanks for not blowing my head off.

Maria: Would've been embarrassing, considering you're my brother-in-law.

Tommy: We all gotta get wrangled up at some point.

Maria: [To Ellie] Ellie, right?

Ellie: [Nods] Yeah.

Maria: What brings you through here?

Ellie: Uh… it's kind of a long story.

Tommy: [To Maria] Why don't we bring 'em inside?

Maria: Yeah. [To Ellie] You hungry?

Ellie: Starving.

[Maria leads them into the dam as Tommy closes the gate behind them. The cinematic "How you doing, baby brother?" ends. Inside, Maria gestures to the other guards to lower their weapons.]

Maria: False alarm. They're friendlies. [To Joel] We've been dealing with raids. A lot of bandits in this area.

Tommy: It's been quiet for a few days.

Joel: What the hell are you doin' here? I thought I'd find you in Jackson.

Tommy: Been trying to bring the plant back to life.

Maria: We had it working before, but one of the turbines went south.

Tommy: We have electricity, Joel… had. We'll get it running again.

[They reach an area where two workers are tending to two horses.]

Ellie: No way. You guys have horses.

Tommy: We got a whole lot of 'em.

Male worker: Hey, Tommy, gimme a hand with this.

Tommy: Sorry, I'll be right back.

[Tommy walks over to one horse to assist in fixing its hooves. Ellie runs up to the other.]

Ellie: [To Maria] Can I?

Maria: Yeah, of course.

Female worker: He likes when you pet his ears.

Maria: You ever ride one?

Ellie: [Pets the horse] I actually have.

[Joel has a chance to interject, triggering the ? optional conversation of the game.]

Joel: When have you ridden a horse?

Ellie: Winston, this soldier back in the zone. He gave me lessons.

Maria: You know, if you want, we can take him riding later.

Ellie: That'd be awesome.

[Tommy fixes the hoove.]

Tommy: There!

Male worker: Hey thanks, Tommy.

Tommy: No sweat. All right, let's continue the tour.

[Maria and Tommy continue leading the way. Maria approaches Earl, a dam worker standing alone.]

Maria: Earl?

Earl: Yeah?

Maria: Why are you here? Weren't you supposed to head back this morning?

Earl: Still waiting on Houser and the rest of the boys to relieve me.

Maria: [Sighs] We'll be fine, just… go home to your family.

Earl: It's just a couple more hours. I'll tough it out.

Maria: All right, well… take it easy.

[Maria opens a door and leads them into the building.]

Male dam worker: [Over radio] Maria.

Maria: Yeah, go ahead.

Male dam worker: We're in the control room. Steve's about to start it back up. Do you wanna come check it out?

Maria: [To Tommy] I'd rather eat with Ellie.

Tommy: It's my turn anyway. I'll go.

Joel: [To Tommy] I'll come with you. [To Ellie] Go with Maria and put some food in you.

Ellie: Joel?

Maria: C'mon, Ellie. Let's give the boys some space. [Maria and Ellie begin walking away. She turns her radio back on.] I'm sending Tommy over. Stand by. [To Ellie] C'mon.

[Tommy leads Joel away into another room, a respite area with bunk beds.]

Tommy: This'll be the sixth time of them trying to get the turbines back online. We've been here just a week, but it feels like forever. [He leads Joel to a crate with a bag on it.] Uh… I got something for you. Last year I went back to Texas. Back home. Most of our stuff was long gone. Most of it.

[Joel approaches Tommy, as he grabs something from the bag and faces Joel.]

Tommy: Here. [Hands Joel a photo of him and Sarah.] It's a little faded but it still looks pretty good.

Joel: [Briefly inspects the photo] I'm good. [He hands it back to Tommy as he avoids looking at it.]

Tommy: [Surprised] You sure? I mean…

Joel: I said I'm good.

Tommy: Okay. Well, I'll hold onto it for you. [He goes to put it away, but Joel interrupts him.]

Joel: Tommy, I… I need to talk to you. Privately.

Tommy: Yeah, okay. Let me just check on my guys real quick. [He puts the photo in his bag.] C'mon.

[He leads Joel up a set of stairs and back outside, now at the top of the dam.]

Tommy: I don't know what you heard, but you should see the town. We're over twenty families strong now. It was Maria and her father, they set up this place that had the idea of being self-sustained. We got crops and livestock… Remember how we thought that no one could live like this anymore? Well, we're doing it.

[They walk past a dam worker attempting to pull out a branch stuck in a turbine.]

Tommy: Give it up. You ain't savin' that turbine.

Male dam worker: Oh, I'll get it. Been at it for too long to give up now.

[Joel walks along the platform and approaches a woman on sentry duty.]

Female dam worker: You're new around here.

[Interacting with her activates the ? optional conversation of the game.]

Joel: Yeah, Joel, I'm Tommy's—

Female dam worker: Brother. [Snickers] Word travels quickly around these parts.

Joel: [Chuckles] Apparently.

Female dam worker: I kind of see the resemblance.

Joel: I see.

Female dam worker: It's a compliment.

Joel: [Laughs] It's a pleasure meeting you.

Female dam worker: You too.

[Joel rejoins Tommy as they continue to cross the dam.]

Joel: What do you do for protection?

Tommy: The adults take turns guarding the perimeter. We even got an electrified fence, when the plant's up and running.

Joel: Yeah, you still gotta deal with infected though, right?

Tommy: Who doesn't? But it's the world we live in.

Joel: Well, maybe it don't have to be.[fn 1]

Tommy: [Snickers] You sound like Marlene.

[Outside of the dam's control room lies a dog, Buckley, chewing on a tennis ball. Joel bends down to pet him.]

Joel: [To Buckley] Hey, buddy.

Tommy: That's Buckley. Not much of a guard dog, but he's good to have around.

Joel: [Chuckles] That's a good boy.

[Joel stops petting Buckley and the two enter the control room, where two workers are looking over schematics for the turbine. Another sits at the control panel.]

Tommy: These two geniuses are gonna bring this plant back to life.

Male dam worker 1: We think we got it this time. [Tommy chuckles.]

Male dam worker 2: You don't believe us?

Tommy: I didn't say that.

Male dam worker 1: I bet you a million bucks it works.

Tommy: Sure. Make it two.

Male operator: Ah, we're almost ready. They just need to finish putting the shield back on.

Tommy: No rush.

[Joel and Tommy walk into the generator room and look on as a group of workers begin to place the shield back on to the turbine.]

Male dam worker 3: To the left! Watch it!

Male dam worker 4: Okay, that's good. Lower it. Slowly!

Male dam worker 3: All right… that's good.

Male dam worker 4: Tommy's here. We good to go?

Male dam worker 5: Gimme… one second…. Okay, good to go!

Male dam worker 4: You ready?

Tommy: Go ahead. Hit it.

Male operator: Here we go.

[The turbine starts turning and the electricity comes back on. Sounds of applause and cheering erupt in the room.]

Tommy: Goddamn. We did it, boys! [He continues to walk along the platform.] Nice work, boys! Somebody get on the horn and give Maria the good news. [To Joel] You see that?

Joel: That's pretty impressive. Looks like you're out two million bucks.

Tommy: [Chuckles] All right, Joel. Let's go talk.

[The two enter an office on the other side of the room. The cinematic "Why bring her here?" begins. Joel shuts the door behind them as Tommy stares outside from the window.]

Joel: That's quite the crew you got there.

Tommy: They're good men. This place gives them a second chance. It gives us all a second chance. [Turns to Joel] So why'd you leave Boston?

Joel: I've been on quite the adventure, little brother. [Pulls out a chair and sits.]

Tommy: [Walking towards Joel] I reckon it's got something to do with that girl.

Joel: Oh, it's got everything to do with that little girl.

Tommy: Well, go on then.

Joel: She's immune.

Tommy: Immune to what? [Snickers] Oh, c'mon.

Joel: See, I know. I've seen her breathe enough spores to take down a dozen men and nothing. I wouldn't have believed it neither, but I can show you.

Tommy: All right. [Sits across from Joel] I'll bite. Why bring her here?

Joel: I was supposed to deliver her to the Fireflies… The way I figure they're your boys, [Tommy snickers] you finish the job, you collect the whole damn payment.

Tommy: [Shaking his head] I haven't seen a Firefly in years.

Joel: But you know where they are. Now I'm not asking for much, Tommy. I just want some simple gear—enough to set me on my way.

Tommy: What makes you think I'd do this for you?

Joel: This isn't for me, Tommy. This is for your damn cause.

Tommy: My cause is my family now. You ain't talking about some walk in the park here.

Joel: [Aggressively] Jesus, boy… Have Maria get some of your born-again friends to do it.

Tommy: They got families too.

Joel: Tommy, I need this.

Tommy: [Pauses] You want some gear? Sure. But I ain't taking that girl off your hands. [Stands up.]

Joel: This is how you gonna repay me, huh?

Tommy: Repay you?

Joel: [Stands] For all those goddamn years I took care of us.

Tommy: Took care? That's what you call it? I got nothing but nightmares from those years.

Joel: [Loudly] You survived because of me!

Tommy: It wasn't worth it.

[Joel shoves Tommy into a nearby filing cabinet.]

Joel: [Annoyed] I bring you the cure for mankind and you wanna play the pissy little brother?

Tommy: [Threateningly] We ain't back in Boston. You lay your hands on me again, it won't end well for you.

[Joel scowls when suddenly, the dam's alarm goes off in the background.]

Joel: What the hell is that?

Tommy: We're under attack. [Grabs his rifle and glances out the window] You still remember how to kill, right?

Joel: Yeah…

[Tommy exits the room and Joel follows. The cinematic "Why bring her here?" ends. They rush out into the heat of combat as workers shoot at oncoming bandits.]

Male dam worker 1: Shit, bandits!

Tommy: Stop 'em! Don't let them into the building.

[The brothers, along with the dam workers, clear out the bandits in the generator room.]

Tommy: Let's get a move on!

[They push up to the control room and kill the last bandit in the area.]

Tommy: You guys see anything?

Male dam worker 2: We got 'em.

Tommy: Let's get to the bridge!

[The group begin running towards the bridge. Maria radios in.]

Maria: [Over radio] Tommy! Bandits, they're breaking into the building!

Tommy: Can you get out of there?

Maria: No, we're trapped.

Tommy: We're gonna come to you, just stay—

Maria: They're here. Ellie, hide!

Tommy: Maria? [The signal cuts out.] Goddammit.

[Joel picks up and inspects the plant schematics on the table.]

Joel: This looks pretty complicated.

[They arrive to the bridge, where another group of bandits come rushing out from the other side. As Tommy's group advances on the bridge, more dam workers show up to assist.]

Male dam worker 1: They're fighting on the bridge. Let's go!

[They eliminate all of the marauders on the bridge.]

Male dam worker 2: That's all those sons of bitches!

Tommy: We gotta get to the girls!

Joel: Right behind you!

[They run into the main building, taking up positions on the upper level. Below them are several bandits raiding the cafeteria. Maria and Ellie are held up behind the kitchen inside, defending themselves.]

Tommy: Joel, do your thing.

[Joel and the others kill the remaining enemies in the cafeteria.]

Ellie: They're all dead.

Maria: Tommy?

Tommy: Maria!

Maria: I'm all right! The kid's with me!

Joel: That was too damn close.

[Maria comes out from behind the kitchen. The cinematic "It's best this way" begins. Tommy runs to her while Joel races to Ellie.]

Tommy: [To Maria] You okay?

Maria: Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine.

[They both look over to Joel and Ellie.]

Joel: Oh my God… All right.

Ellie: [Breathlessly] Joel. Oh, man… They were coming in from every direction.

Joel: Okay.

Ellie: [Talking over Joel] Then Maria was like, "We gotta run!"

Joel: Listen.

Ellie: And so we dove over these tables and this huge guy blasts in with his shotgun.

Joel: Slow down, slow down, slow down. Listen—

Ellie: And then—

Joel: [Grabs Ellie's shoulders] Hey, hey, are you hurt?

Ellie: [Relieved] No.

[The camera cuts back to Tommy and Maria.]

Tommy: Goddammit. [To Maria] I need to talk to you.

[The scene cuts to Maria and Tommy arguing outside. Joel listens nearby, rested on a box.]

Maria: Absolutely not. You tell him to go find somebody else.

Tommy: Maria, I can't have this hanging over my head.

Maria: Do you have any idea how many men we lost here today?

Ellie: [Walks up beside Joel] Hey, what's that all about? [Joel shakes his head.] Does that have anything to do with me?

Joel: We'll talk about it later.

Ellie: Did he tell you where the lab is?

Joel: [Insistent] We'll talk about it later.

Ellie: Later… [Scoffs] Right.

[Ellie storms off as Joel goes to say her name, but refrains.]

Maria: It takes one. One fuck up. [The camera cuts to her and Tommy] One fuck up and then I turn into one of those widows. Okay?

Tommy: I have to do this. I don't know what else to say.

Maria: [Shakes her head and scoffs] Fine.

Tommy: Maria. [Maria walks to Joel.] Maria!

Joel: [To himself] Here we go. [Stands up.]

Maria: [To Joel] You. If anything—anything—at all happens to him. It's on you.

[Joel nods and looks away. Maria walks away.]

Tommy: She's thankful, you know.

Joel: Yeah, I know.

Tommy: I'll take that girl of yours to the Fireflies. You don't have to worry about it.

Joel: It's best this way.

Tommy: Well, maybe some real good will come of this.

Joel: [Pauses] I need to talk to Ellie.

[Tommy nods and walks off as his radio chimes in. Joel turns the other way, wiping his eye.]

Tommy: [To his radio] Say again, I didn't hear ya. [To Joel] Joel!

Joel: [Turns around] What—what is it?

Tommy: That girl of yours, she took one of our horses and rode off.

Joel: Damn it. Which way?

Tommy: C'mon.

[The cinematic "It's best this way" ends.]

Ranch House[]

[Joel and Tommy run to the gate where one of Tommy's men waits with two horses.]

Male worker: I just saw her riding on outta here.

Tommy: Go back inside. Help the others clean the place up.

Man: Okay. Careful out there.

[Tommy and Joel mount the horses to pursue Ellie as the man goes back inside.]

Joel: [To his horse] Easy, easy.

[The brothers begin riding up the path.]

Tommy: [Spotting horse tracks] There. See the tracks?

Joel: Yeah.

Tommy: [To his horse] C'mon.

[They ride along the dam's walls and onto a deserted, overgrown road.]

Tommy: She couldn't have gotten far. We'll find her. Don't worry.

Joel: Stubborn kid.

Tommy: She usually pull these stunts?

Joel: Nothing like this. I don't know what's going on.

[Eventually, the brothers reach a blocking in their path.]

Joel: Well, she didn't go down this way.

[They turn around to see horse tracks heading down a trail.]

Tommy: Horse tracks. She went into these woods.

Joel: [Sighs] Ellie, what're you thinking? [They continue down the trail.] There. More tracks.

Tommy: Okay, good.

[They follow the trail into a ravine. As Joel and his horse jump over a log, a Molotov cocktail at them from ahead. The fire splashes out, spooking the horse.]

Joel: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, woah…

[Joel falls from the horse, which proceeds to flee back through the passage. Several bandits call out and appear in the area ahead. Tommy dismounts his horse and runs to meet Joel.]

Tommy: I got your back. [They take cover behind a pickup truck.] How many do you see?

Joel: Too goddamn many.

Tommy: Go around. I'll cover you.

[The brothers eventually take down all of the bandits.]

Tommy: That's all of them.

Joel: C'mon. Back to the horses.

[They mount their horses and ride up the hill, past the bandit's encampment.]

Joel: Tracks keep going this way. I just hope they didn't get to her.

[They find a ranch house where a horse is tied to the porch outside.]

Tommy: Look, by the ranch. That's our horse. She's gonna be there.

Joel: [They ride up to the house.] Area looks clear.

[They hitch their horses to the porch and enter the house.]

Tommy: Be careful.

Joel: Ellie? Ellie?!

Ellie: [From upstairs] I'm up here.

Joel: [Mutters] Jesus Christ.

Tommy: I'll keep an eye out. Reckon you guys need to have a chat.

[Joel heads upstairs and to the far bedroom down the hallway. The cinematic "I'm not her" begins. Joel enters the room and scoffs in disbelief. Ellie is sat slouched by the window, reading a girl's diary.]

Ellie: Is this really all they had to worry about? Boys? Movies? Deciding which shirt goes with which skirt? It's bizarre.

Joel: Get up, we're leaving. C'mon.

Ellie: And if I say no? [Sits properly.]

Joel: Do you even realize what your life means? Huh? Running off like that. Putting yourself at risk… it's pretty goddamn stupid.

Ellie: Well, I guess we're both disappointed with each other then.

Joel: [Walks closer] What do you want from me?

Ellie: Admit that you wanted to get rid of me the whole time.

Joel: [Hesitates] Tommy knows this area better than—

Ellie: Agh, fuck that— [She stands up, turning away from Joel.]

Joel: Well, I'm sorry, I trust him better than I trust myself.

Ellie: [Faces him] Stop with the bullshit! What are you so afraid of? That I'm gonna end up like Sam? I can't get infected. I can take care of myself.

Joel: How many close calls have we had?

Ellie: Well, we seem to be doing all right so far.

Joel: [Shouts] And now you'll be doing even better with Tommy! [Turns away.]

Ellie: I'm not her, you know.

Joel: [Turns around] What?

Ellie: Maria told me about Sarah. And I—

Joel: [Sternly] Ellie. [Pauses] You are treading on some mighty thin ice here.

Ellie: I'm sorry about your daughter, Joel, but I have lost people too.

Joel: You have no idea what loss is.

Ellie: Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyone— [Pushes Joel] fucking except for you! [On the verge of tears] So don't tell me that I would be safer with someone else, because the truth is I would just be more scared.

Joel: [Coldly] You're right… You're not my daughter, and I sure as hell ain't your dad. And we are going our separate ways.

[Tommy suddenly kicks the door open and enters the room, rifle in hand.]

Tommy: Get it together. We're not alone.

[Joel moves to the window and sees two bandits entering the house.]

Joel: I got two walking in.

Tommy: There's more inside already.

[Joel takes cover behind the door. Ellie, saddened, waits beside Tommy. The cinematic "I'm not her" ends. They take out the bandits on the second floor as Joel heads downstairs.]

Joel: Hang back.

Tommy: Watch yourself.

[He manages to take out the last remaining bandits.]

Joel: All right… house is clear.

Tommy: Let's get back to the horses.

[The group heads for the front door. The cinematic "Adios" begins. Joel opens the door and aims his shotgun as he scans the porch for more enemies.]

Joel: It's clear.

[He stands watch as Tommy and Ellie approach their horses. Joel watches Ellie with a somber look as she walks past.]

Tommy: [To Ellie] You want a hand up?

Ellie: I got it.

[Ellie mounts her horse as does Tommy.]

Tommy: [To his horse] C'mon…

[Joel mounts his horse as Tommy and Ellie begin to leave. He follows them a few feet behind. They tread at a steady pace through the forest. Joel and Ellie are both deep in thought, as Joel somberly glances at Ellie. Eventually, they come into sight of the town of Jackson. Joel and Tommy near the edge.]

Joel: [To his horse] Easy… easy…

Tommy: [To his horse] Whoa… [Two stop at the edge as Ellie stops behind them. To Joel] There she is. Kids'll be watching movies tonight.

Joel: Where is this lab of theirs?

Tommy: It's all the way out—University of Eastern Colorado.

Joel: Go Big Horns. [He and Tommy snicker. To Ellie] Ellie, get off your horse. Give it on back to Tommy. [To Tommy] I'm gonna hang on to this fella, if that's all right with you. [To Ellie] Go on. Don't make me repeat myself.

Tommy: What are you doing?

Joel: Your wife kinda scares me. I don't want her coming after me.

[Ellie dismounts her horse and offers her horse's reins to Tommy, which he passively takes.]

Ellie: Sorry for stealing your horse.

Tommy: [To Joel] Look, come back to town, let's discuss it at least.

Joel: [As he pulls Ellie up onto his horse] Eh, you know me. My mind's all made up. University, Eastern Colorado. How do I find this lab?

Tommy: It's in the science building, looks like a giant mirror, you can't miss it.

Joel: You take care of that wife of yours.

Tommy: There's a place for you here, you know.

Joel: [Nods in appreciation. To Ellie] You good?

Ellie: [Content] I'm good.

Joel: [To Tommy] Adios, little brother. [To their horse] C'mon.

[Joel and Ellie ride offscreen as Tommy watches them. The cinematic "Adios" ends.]
