Jacob[fn 1] is a supporting character in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us. He was the father of Constance, both of whom were members of the Seraphites living in Seattle, Washington.[1]

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Jacob's background, except that he was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak and had become a devoted member of the Seraphites by 2019, living in Seattle, Washington. He later fathered a daughter, Constance, who he raised within the Seraphite community, passing on their beliefs and customs, and teaching her about their prophet. When the war with the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) broke out, it is presumed that Jacob participated in the conflict supporting the Seraphites. By 2029, Jacob, Constance, and a small group of followers, tired of war, broke away from the main sect, forming a splinter group with the goal of fleeing Seattle and escaping the escalating conflict between the Seraphites and the WLF.[1]

Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]

Season 2[]

In April 2029, Jacob led his daughter and the rest of their splinter group along a path out of Seattle. He communicated with a rear scout using the Seraphites' whistled signals, which Constance successfully decoded. During the walk, Jacob discussed his understanding of the prophet with his daughter. When she asked for one of the hammers he carried, he gave it to her and asked if she felt safe, to which she replied that she did. Shortly afterward, the scout signaled an approaching threat. Acting quickly, Jacob pulled Constance into hiding beneath a fallen log in the forest. When she asked if the danger was from "demons", Jacob told her that it was "Wolves".

Sometime later, during Ellie Williams and Dina's arrival in Seattle, they traveled down the same path on Shimmer and discovered the bodies of Jacob, his daughter, and the rest of their group, all of whom had been shot to death. Dina vomited in response, while Ellie concluded that the WLF was responsible for the killings.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Jacob was a middle-aged man with fair skin, blue eyes, and a brown buzz cut, styled in accordance with Seraphite customs. He bore the group's signature Glasgow smile—scars running from the corners of his mouth to his ears—and wore their traditional brown-washed poncho, which featured the Seraphite emblem on the back. His hands were wrapped in dark cloth.

Relationships[]

Constance[]

Constance was the young daughter of Jacob.
