Janowicz[2] is a supporting character in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us.[1]
Biography[]
Background and early life[]
Little is known about Janowicz except that he was a FEDRA soldier stationed in Seattle after the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak in 2003. He served under Greenberg's command while dealing with resistance from the citizens living in the zone. He learned Greenberg's nickname for the citizens was "voters" but didn't learn the reason why. On one such patrol, he encountered a three people disseminating religious propaganda in the city. He radioed for Greenberg to assist in what to do with them, taking pleasure in how the man insulted and even assaulted some of them. By 2018, he was under Sergeant Isaac Dixon's command and regularly fought against WLF dissenters.[1]

Season 2[]
In 2018, while on patrol in an armored car, Janowicz told Burton, Martinez, Patel and the rest of his squadmates about how his former sergeant Greenberg treated dissenters. When Burton asked why he called them "voters", he responded he didn't know, causing Isaac to respond it was because FEDRA took away the citizen's right to vote so it became a common mocking name for them.
The driver then stopped the car upon reaching a block in the road from a school bus. Isaac spotted in the rear-view mirror that WLF members were approaching them. Janowicz gave the others order to lock and load in preparation for an attack, but Isaac ordered him not to, revealing he intended to talk to them. Janowicz tried to counter, saying it was against FEDRA protocol, but Isaac dismissed him, taking only Burton out of the truck with him. Shortly after, Isaac returned. Having decided to defect to the WLF, he tossed two frag grenades into the car, locking Janowicz and the others inside. Janowicz died in the blast.[1]
Physical appearance[]
Janowicz wore a worn FEDRA uniform and helmet and was armed with an assault rifle. His ID and FEDRA badges were more worn and torn than the others in his squad, even more than Isaac's. He also had five-o'clock shadow and black hair.[1]
Personality[]
Janowicz was, in Isaac's words, "thoughtless". He lacked empathy for residents living in Seattle, taking pleasure in watching others abuse them and would openly gloat at how he and others mistreated them. Despite his sadistic pleasure, Janowicz apologizes to Isaac when he criticizes him for how he treated citizens. Even though he was careless, he still respected authority, heeding Isaac's commands not to engage the WLF soldiers on patrol despite sensing they would be violent towards them.[1]
