Marlon is a supporting character in the first season of HBO's The Last of Us. He is a survivor living alone with his wife, Florence, in the wilderness of post-apocalyptic Wyoming.[1]

Biography[]

Background[]

Marlon was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak. He married his wife Florence at some point and lived with her near Cody, Wyoming. At his insistence, they left their home and set up residence in the wilderness, living off the land in a small cabin not far from the Yellowstone River. Their remote location allowed them to survive the outbreak and avoid being sent to a quarantine zone by FEDRA. Marlon acquired a pistol and a bow and arrows to hunt animals living in the wild to eat. In time, Marlon and Florence realized another group was living across the river but never risked visiting them, believing they were hostile given that they often found corpses—infected and human—left on the river bank.[2]

Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]

In the winter of 2023, Marlon went out hunting and successfully killed two white rabbits. Upon returning to the cabin, he found Florence held at gunpoint by a man and a teenage girl. Marlon complied with the man's demands to remove his weapons and sit down. The man then ordered he tell them on the map where they were located. After checking with Florence, Marlon pointed at a spot on the map, matching what his wife had told them earlier.

The man holstered his gun and asked him if he had seen or heard of a man named Tommy. Marlon replied he had not, speculating he was likely dead given Cody had fallen to infected and the community living across the river were rumored to be hostile killers. The man and the girl then left, leaving Marlon and Florence to continue their life in isolation.[2]

Appearance[]

Marlon was an older Native American man with short gray hair and a circle beard. He wore numerous layers of winter clothing and possessed a bow and arrow to use when hunting and a revolver that he kept holstered on his person.[2]

Personality[]

Marlon had a relaxed persona, undeterred when Joel held him at gun point. He was blunt, deflecting Joel and Ellie's attempts at interrogation with dry humor.[2]

Relationships[]

Florence[]

Marlon was married to Florence and lived with her in a cabin in isolation. Marlon was protective of her, convincing her to leave civilization behind and live in together out in the wilderness. He understood and trusted her, putting faith that she was not lying about where she had pointed on the map when held at gun point.[2]
