Mission Hill Pier is a location in The Last of Us.[1]
History[]
Background[]
After the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak around late September 2013, Mission Hill Pier came under FEDRA and the United States military's control as part of the Boston quarantine zone. The military ensured infected could not breach the QZ through the wharf area. They dubbed the wharf "Area 5" in their maps.[2]
By 2033, the smuggling community within Boston converted the area into one of their major trading points, bringing in shipments from as far north as Canada. They kept their practices a secret from the military, though their leader Robert was able to bribe certain soldiers that caught them trading with others. They traded in numerous goods, including clothes, toilet paper, frozen meat, and liquor.[3]
Events of The Last of Us[]
In the Summer of 2033, rival smugglers Joel and Tess planned to assassinate Robert as revenge for him selling guns that were supposed to go to the pair. They snuck into the wharf and killed the smugglers guarding Robert. They then chased the man throughout the area, before cornering him in an alleyway. The pair interrogated him for information on their guns, learning he had given them to the Fireflies. Enraged, they killed him and fled the pier to avoid the military finding them.[1]
