Nana is a supporting character in the first season of HBO's The Last of Us. She was the neighbor of Joel and Sarah Miller in Austin before the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak.[1]
Biography[]
Background[]
Nana was the neighbor of Joel and Sarah Miller. She lived together with her daughter, Connie Adler, and her son-in-law, Danny Adler, who looked after her in her old age. She was both deaf and wheelchair-bound. Her family often took her to the hospital in Austin for medical treatment.
Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]
On the day of the outbreak, when Sarah was visiting the Adler household, Nana was beginning to show symptoms of the Cordyceps brain infection, displaying muscle spasms despite her usual motionless state. However, these symptoms remained unnoticed by both Sarah and Connie, with only the Adler family dog, Mercy, taking notice.
That night, Sarah found Mercy scratching at the door of the Miller's house in a state of panic. She tried to bring the dog back to her neighbor's house and found their front door wide open. Sarah then proceeded to go inside to check on her neighbors. In the kitchen, she found Danny, who had been bitten, and begged her for help. She then saw Nana, who at that point had turned and was in the process of infecting Connie. Upon seeing the girl, Nana leaped at her and Sarah fled out of the house. Outside, Nana again tried to attack Sarah and her father Joel. Joel then hit her in the head with a wrench, killing her.
Later, while passing Jimmy's farm, Joel speculated that Nana was infected with the Cordyceps when visiting the hospital in the city.[1]
