Sam's robot is an artifact that is obtained in the chapter "Lakeside Resort" in The Last of Us. It is already in Ellie's backpack at the start of the chapter.
History[]
Events of The Last of Us[]
This toy robot was initially picked up by Sam while the group was still in Pittsburgh. Henry adamantly believed that they should never take anything that they did not need, and Sam was forced to leave it behind as a result. When she was sure she was not being watched, Ellie took it and gave it to Sam after they had all left the city. By that point, Sam had been infected and showed little interest in it.
After Sam's death, Ellie kept the toy. She later lamented that she should have left it on his grave instead.
Events of The Last of Us Part II[]
The robot makes a reappearance in The Last of Us Part II located on a shelf in Ellie's house in Jackson.
Related dialogue[]
When you view the artifact, Ellie will say:
- I was so stupid. I should have said something different to you.
Just before the duo make it to Tommy's Dam, Joel may come across a small grave with a teddy bear on it, which triggers the following conversation:
- Joel: That's too small of a grave.
- Ellie: I forgot to leave that stupid robot on his grave. What should I do with it?
- Joel: Ellie...
- Ellie: What? I want to talk about it.
- Joel: No.
- Ellie: Why not?
- Joel: How many times do we need to go over this? Things happen... and we move on.
- Ellie: It's just...
- Joel: That's enough.
- Ellie: You're right. I'm sorry.
Trivia[]
- It resembles a Transformers toy from the 80s, specifically Soundwave, or the Shogun Warrior Gaiking.
- In gameplay, the player can see Ellie standing in front of the toy robot. Once the camera shifts out of view of Ellie, Ellie will pocket the robot.
