Seattle is a major location in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us. Prior to the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, it was the most populous city in the state of Washington and the entire Pacific Northwestern region of the United States.

Background[]
Seattle used to be a thriving large city before the outbreak but, like many other cities, was overtaken by FEDRA to form a quarantine zone to try to protect the citizens from the infected. Before 2010 however, resistance groups began sprouting up to challenge their rule over major cities throughout the western United States, including the Fireflies and another group named the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), along the coast of Seattle. Although, the two groups struggled to effectively organize themselves, with Eugene Lynden commenting that the pair of groups and other small rebel groups' failure to properly collaborate or coordinate is what allowed FEDRA to maintain its control over the city for such a long time.[1] However, sometime between 2018 and 2024, the city had fallen to the WLF, with their leader Isaac Dixon welcoming former Fireflies into the group to help fight their new enemy, the Seraphites.[2] According to Ellie and Dina, they mentioned that they heard that parts of Seattle were bombed.[3]
Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]
By 2028, Isaac gave permission for Abby Anderson and her friends to go to Jackson to find and kill Joel Miller for his hand in destroying the Fireflies situated in Salt Lake City and killing Abby's father.[4]
