The Seattle Courthouse, also known as the United States Courthouse, is a minor location in The Last of Us Part II.[1]

History[]

Background[]

The Seattle Courthouse was a federal courthouse located in downtown Seattle. It possessed numerous courtrooms, a library, office area and an underground parking garage that could be reached by using an elevator. After the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, people abandoned the courthouse as numerous infected occupied the area. After FEDRA took control over the city, they carpet-bombed the area the courthouse was situated in in an attempt to kill all of the infected as part of the process of converting Seattle into a quarantine zone.[1]

The United States military then occupied the courthouse, converting and using it as their headquarters—notably its lower levels—to turn into a database containing information about the QZ's residents, which they used to keep track of which people had survived the Cordyceps so far. However, a resistance movement calling themselves the Washington Liberation Front eventually rose up and rebelled against FEDRA's rule over the city.[2] Nearing defeat, Carmelo Torres and Sergeant Ward made a final stand with other soldiers in the courthouse, ultimately being defeated by the WLF.[3][4] Per their leader, Isaac Dixon's orders, WLF soldiers captured other fleeing FEDRA soldiers and executed them within the courthouse,[1] including Benny.[5]

Eventually the WLF left the courthouse, as they created their main stronghold in and around SoundView Stadium instead of occupying the entire city.[6] As the years passed, infected repopulated the courthouse, and some transformed from runners into clickers.[1]

Events of The Last of Us Part II[]

In 2038, Ellie and Dina entered the courthouse in search of gasoline. They killed the infected roaming around on the upper levels before proceeding down to the lower levels, where they found Torres' and the other soldier's corpses. Ellie pulled a machete from Torres' body to use herself and also took a memorandum from his body as well. She also found a note on Ward's body and a letter on Benny's corpse. The pair then proceeded downstairs through an elevator shaft to the parking garage. They killed the infected living within it and then checked the tanker for gasoline before leaving the courthouse. If Ellie had already checked the synagogue for fuel, she will collect some from the tanker here. If she has not, the tanker will be empty and she will have to go collect the fuel from the synagogue.[1]
