The Seraphite Prophet is a character mentioned in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us. She was the founder and original leader of the Seraphite cult living in Seattle, Washington.[1]

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about the prophet except that she was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak living in Seattle. The prophet formed her group sometime after the outbreak in Seattle. In time, many came to follow her teachings and adopted a symbol, and other expressions of the faith created to represent loyalty to her, including cutting their mouths into Glasgow smiles.[2] Some also made murals of her in the city, with the inscription "Feel Her Love" etched underneath them.[2]

However, war between her group and the WLF eventually sparked sometime after FEDRA's rule in Seattle collapsed. She died in 2019, but her followers continued to honor her teachings and fight the WLF in her name by 2029. Some, like Ezra said the prophet was eternal even after death. However, Constance's father argued she wasn't magic but someone who saw a truth others couldn't see and wished to share it with others. His group chose to abandon the war, believing that was what the prophet wanted.[1] Others thought differently, with self-declared priests in the groups disemboweling WLF soldiers to remove the sin they believed was nested in them, believing doing so would allow them to know the prophet's love and "be free" from the sin.[2]

Season 2[]

In April 2029, the Seraphites continued to fight against the WLF in her honor. A group in a Seattle park would capture WLF soldiers and hang them to disembowel them, praying together for the prophet to show her love to them as they died. They also would pursue other survivors, believing it was their duty to ensure they could not hide from the prophet's symbolic light.[2] Seraphites like Malcolm also prayed to her personally, notably the prayer "She watches over me. She fills my soul" when needing to find strength in suffering.[3] Another would pray to her that "the world was not in balance but I have done my part to right it in your name."[4]

However, Constance's group tried to leave Seattle and the war behind, believing that was a better way to keep the prophet's spirit alive.[1]

Later, while venturing through the streets of Seattle, Ellie and Jesse notice a mural that looked slightly different to the other murals of the Seraphite Prophet. They ponder if there really was one singular prophet or if there were more than one.[4]
