The Bostonian Museum is a minor location in HBO's The Last of Us. It is a historical museum in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, with exhibits focusing on the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain (1775-1783).[1]

Background[]
Prior to the outbreak, the building served as a functioning museum. It had at least two floors and a long and wide staircase. The museum housed many artefacts, principally American Revolutionary War era history on its second floor, such as guns, models and busts.
After outbreak day, the museum quickly fell into disuse. Infected gradually took hold of the building, filling it with their vines as Cordyceps spread throughout it. FEDRA would occasionally patrol the building to clear out the infected, although many would die trying given that Clickers (an enhanced stage of infected) took occupancy in the building by 2023. The infected's presence in the building led smugglers Joel and Tess to deem crossing the highway easier than the building for reaching the outskirts of Boston, even though the highway typically had more infected present.
In the summer of 2023, one FEDRA soldier tried to clear the museum, but was mauled to death by the infected hidden within.[1]
Events of HBO's The Last of Us[]
Joel, Ellie, and Tess are forced to detour through the museum during their journey to the Massachusetts State House to rendezvous with the Fireflies. Inside, they encountered two clickers. The pair attacked the group, successfully biting Tess and Ellie though Joel was able to kill them with his revolver and assault rifle. The trio then leave the building before more infected arrive.[1]
Ellie later recalls the encounter with the clickers in the museum to Henry Burrell[2] as does Joel when recounting the events to Tommy Miller.[3]

- The exterior of Formans Menswear at the corner of 12th Avenue and 1st Street SW in Calgary, Alberta, stood in for the Bostonian Museum.
