The Last of Us: The Board Game, or simply The Last of Us Board Game, was a planned tabletop adaptation of The Last of Us that was being developed by CMON Limited. Initially announced on The Last of Us Day 2020, the game was in development for several years with little to no information on its release. As of March 2025, development on the game has ceased, and CMON has removed it from its catalogue of future projects, with no indications of a planned release.

Development[]

Announcement[]

On September 25, 2020, as part of the preview for The Last of Us Day 2020, Naughty Dog announced they would be partnering with CMON Limited to develop a brand new board game to bring the characters and world of The Last of Us to a tabletop format.[1] The same day, CMON also announced the board game in a press release on their website:

Remembering the impact The Last of Us had on me when I first experienced it years ago, and then being completely stunned by The Last of Us Part II, I knew this was a narrative experience we wanted to bring to the board gaming table. We are honored to have the chance to translate a modern classic of the video game industry into a unique and compelling board game experience. The Last of Us is a series that many of us at CMON have followed from its inception and we are eager to adapt the stirring character-driven player experience to tabletop, letting fans explore the world and story in a entirely new way.
―Geoff Skinner, VP of Entertainment & Head of Licensing at CMON[2]

Hiatus and cancellation[]

Since its announcement on The Last of Us Day 2020, CMON and Naughty Dog have remained silent on the project, with no public updates since. In November 2022, a separate tabletop game titled The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, developed by Themeborne, was announced, leading to speculation about the fate of CMON's board game. CMON would later confirm that The Last of Us: The Board Game was still in development despite this and that more information would be shared when ready. However, at a CMON event in 2023, a representative for the publisher reportedly confirmed that they were no longer going forward with the project. As of March 2025, CMON confirmed that they ceased development on the game and removed it from its catalogue of future projects, with no indication of a future release.
