It was originally released online on December 13, 2011, to coincide with the announcement that Gustavo Santaolalla would be scoring the game. It was officially released, along with the rest of the music from the game, as part of The Last of Us Original Soundtrack on June 11 2013.
The piece is written in a compound time signature in the key of E minor. It is lead by a ronroco playing arpeggiated chords, and features percussion in the background.
