The Last of Us Day 2020 was the 8th annual The Last of Us Day (formerly Outbreak Day) celebration hosted by Naughty Dog. It occurred on September 26, 2020. In addition to the content released by Sony and Naughty Dog, new content was also released through collaboration with seven other companies.[1]
Preview[]
A preview for the event took the form of a blog post on Naughty Dog's website on the eve of The Last of Us day. Despite the name, the preview announced almost all of the content that would be made available during the event. The only content not included in the preview was the wallpaper designed by Kojima Productions, the reaction GIFs released by Naughty Dog, and the limited-time run of free The Last of Us Part II PS4 system themes and avatars. The Last of Us Part II Beach Theme (PS4 System Theme)[]
Available for free on the PlayStation Store, Naughty Dog released a PS4 dynamic system theme. The Last of Us Part II Beach Theme features the special, post-game, main menu screen of the boat washed ashore with the waves gently rolling onto the beach.[2] The theme released as part of the preview line-up on September 25 with a file size of 21.17 MB.[3]
The Last of Us Part II Abby Cosplay Guide[]
Following up on the Part II Ellie Cosplay Guide from The Last of Us Day 2019[4], Naughty Dog released an Abby Cosplay Guide. The downloadable PDF features high-resolution renders of every facet of Abby’s design, including detailed shots of her clothing, weapons, equipment, and hairstyle. The guide was announced as part of the preview and released on September 26, as part of the main event.[2][5]
Photo Mode Contest[]

The 2020 Photo Mode Contest was announced as part of the preview for The Last of Us Day. Unlike the previous contest, this one applied to The Last of Us Part II instead of The Last of Us Remastered. The contest ran from October 1 to October 30, 2020 with four winners being chosen every Friday starting on the 9th.

Additionally, a limited time sale (September 25-28) ran on The Last of Us content in both the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Gear Store. The Last of Us Remastered, The Last of Us: Left Behind, and Factions MP Bundles were available for digital purchase at 50% off. All previously released The Last of Us Part II PS4 system themes and avatars were free. And The Last of Us merchandise was up to 40% off on PlayStation Gear Store. The Gear Store also feature several new items including a Joel Funko Pop!, a new t-shirt, and a new mug. Lastly, there was also a limited number of the special edition The Last of Us Part II Taylor 314ce and GS Mini guitars available on the 26th only.[2][1]
Naughty Dog also released a set of ten The Last of Us Part II inspired GIFs on Giphy.[6]
Collaboration Content[]
Part II OST and Posters by Mondo[]
Mondo, a recurring The Last of Us Day collaborator since 2016, debuted a vinyl release of The Last of Us Part II Original Soundtrack as well as two timed-edition The Last of Us Part II themed Posters.[2] Additionally, Mondo began selling copies of The Art of The Last of Us Part II on their website.[7]
Featuring the music of Gustavo Santaolalla, with additional Music by Mac Quayle, the album was made available for preorder in the 2XLP format. The vinyl features album art by illustrator Tula Lotay with two "front covers" featuring Ellie on one side and Abby on the reverse. Additionally, the release features liner notes by Director Neil Druckmann.[8] The album is pressed on 2x 180 Gram Colored Vinyl and is also available on 2x 180 Gram Black Vinyl. With a limit of 2 per customer, the album was made available at $35.[7]
Based on the theme of duality in The Last of Us Part II, Mondo released two time-limited posters illustrated by Tula Lotay. The posters, one featuring Ellie and the other featuring Abby, were available for $60 from September 26-30, 2020. Both posters are 18" x 24" and were printed by DL Screenprinting.[7]
The Last of Us Part II Ellie Statues by Gaming Heads[]
Gaming Heads unveiled a 1/4 scale statue of Ellie featuring her appearance from The Last of Us Part II. The statue measures 16 inches tall is made using polystone resin. The statue made available in three versions: "Regular Edition", "Stealth Edition", and "Hunter Edition"; all three are expected to ship in the third quarter of 2021.[9][10][11]
The Regular Edition statue depicts an angry Ellie wielding a Machete with both hands. The run of the Regular Edition statue is limited to 1500 units at price of a $529.99 each.[9] The Stealth Edition builds on the Regular Edition by including interchangeable parts. In addition to the portrait, set-of-arms, and machete of the Regular Edition, the Stealth Edition includes a second portrait, depicting a calmer Ellie; a second set-of-arms, and a bow. The run of the Stealth Edition statue is limited to 750 units at a price of $579.99 each.[10] The Hunter Edition further builds on the Stealth Edition by including a third portrait, depicting an angry Ellie with blood trickling down her forehead, and a bloody machete. The run of the Hunter Edition statue is limited to 350 units at a price of $629.99 each.[11]
The Last of Us Joel and Ellie Statues by Mamegyorai[]
Mamegyorai unveiled a pair (sold as a set) of 1/9 scale figures of Joel and Ellie from the first game. The statues are made of painted PVC and ABS plastic and were designed by sculptor Masato Ohata. The status were made available for pre-order at a price 350 USD internationally, and for ¥ 35,000 in Japan, and are scheduled to ship in March, 2021. Each figure can be displayed separately or fit together like two puzzle pieces to show a single scene.[12][13]
The "Joel" figure measures 8.5 inches (22 cm) tall and depicts Joel from the start of the Summer chapters featuring his iconic green plaid shirt, backpack, and revolver. Joel stands next to a broken down brick wall with the remains of a wooden panel which was inspired by the "Beyond the Wall" Section of the chapter "The Quarantine Zone". In the rear of the pedestal, in-game items such as broken scissors and a box of Revolver ammo.[13]
The "Ellie" figure measures 7.5 inches (19 cm) tall and depicts Elie from the chapter "Pittsburgh" holding a rifle. Ellie's pedestal features a lantern, which is supposed symbolize "hope" and "family". Ohata clarifies that he had not yet played the sequel when he designed the figures. Ellie's pedestal also features a brick and is partially rimmed with water.[13]
The Last of Us Part II Wallpaper by Kojima Productions[]
A The Last of Us Part II themed wallpaper was created by Kojima Production's artist Yoji Shinkawa. The wallpaper was made available to download for free in both a desktop and mobile format.[1][14]
The Last of Us: The Board Game by CMON[]

As part of the preview event, Naughty Dog announced they would be partnering with CMON to develop a brand-new board game to bring the characters and world of The Last of Us to a tabletop format.[2][15]
The Last of Us Part II Apparel by Graph[]
Graph unveiled six The Last of Us Part II inspired T-shirts. Four short sleeve shirts, one featuring Ellie, one featuring a Molotov Cocktail, one featuring a guitar, and one featuring the Fireflies' logo were made available at $30 each. Two long sleeve shirts, one featuring Ellie with a guitar and one featuring Ellie's Switchblade, were made available at $40 each.[16]
The Last of Us Part II Apparel by Torch Torch[]
Exclusive to Japan, apparel brand Torch Torch released two new The Last of Us Part II inspired T-shirts. Both designs feature illustrations of Ellie, one depicts Ellie playing a guitar (Illustrated by Kaoru Aoki) and the other shows her walking through the woods with a rifle (Illustrated by Yoshikawa). Both shirt design were made available in multiple colors and sold at a price of ¥ 4,500.[17]
