The Last of Us Day 2022 logo

The Last of Us Day 2022 was the tenth annual The Last of Us Day celebration hosted by Naughty Dog. It occurred on September 26, 2022.[1]

As with previous game releases, Naughty Dog animators select some of their favorite GIFs and recreate them using characters and scenery from their games. For The Last of Us Day 2022, they announced a collection of ten new GIFs based on The Last of Us Part I, released on GIPHY.[1] Some are based on popular GIFs from TV shows and movies such as Alien 3 (1992), The Shining (1980), and Always Be My Maybe (2019), as well as reaction memes.

Naughty Dog once again collaborated with artist and community member David Blatt to release a previously unreleased, black-and-white piece from his The Last of Us Part I key art set.[1] A variety of options were available for mobile devices including Samsung Galaxy, iPhone 8+, and iPhone Pro Series; three resolutions for desktop, 1920×1080, 2560×1440, and 3840×2160; and landscape and portrait versions for tablet devices.

On Friday, September 23, 2022, Naughty Dog posted on their Twitter and Instagram accounts asking the virtual photography community to share their favorite Photo Mode shots from The Last of Us series, using the hashtag #TLOUPhotoMode.[2] On The Last of Us Day at 1:30 p.m. EDT, Naughty Dog released a community album on their blog including 19 community submissions. Additionally, members of the Naughty Dog studio shared their own Photo Mode tips and photos, including Senior Cinematographer Ryan Chan, Senior Game Designer Derek Chatwood, and QA tester Joy Liberatore.[3]

A new set of The Last of Us Part II merchandise was announced and released on the PlayStation Gear Store, including a Firefly aluminum stop sign, a 3/4 sleeve baseball shirt, a unisex and ladies' pullover, a Carhartt cap, a glass etched water bottle, a set of 4 pint glasses, a fleece blanket, and a Firefly enamel keychain.

Additionally, all pre-existing The Last of Us merchandise on the PlayStation Gear Store was 20% off by using the code "TLOUDAY2022" during checkout, available only for that day.[4]

Multiplayer game update[]

In a Twitter comment, Neil Druckmann reiterated that more details would be released in 2023 regarding the untitled The Last of Us multiplayer game:

At 10:30 a.m. EDT, the HBO Max Twitter account posted a five-second teaser clip captioned with the hashtag #TLOUDay. At 12:00 p.m. EDT, Naughty Dog and HBO released an official teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO Original series The Last of Us, premiering in 2023 on HBO Max, on their social media accounts. The trailer showcased a variety of scenes of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and their journey across America, as "Alone and Forsaken" by Hank Williams plays in the background.[6]

Scenes include the early hours of the outbreak, living in Boston under FEDRA, Joel and Tess smuggling Ellie, and more, as well as giving fans the first looks of Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Anna Torv as Tess, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Storm Reid as Riley, and Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen.

The Last of Us Original Soundtrack by Music On Vinyl[]

Music On Vinyl, in collaboration with Naughty Dog, announced pre-orders for limited edition vinyl record sets of The Last of Us Original Soundtrack, composed by Gustavo Santaolalla. They are pressed on 180 gram vinyl in 2LP format, and were available in three variants. They are housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, which includes printed innersleeves, an 8-page booklet with liner notes by the game's writer and creative director Neil Druckmann, and a PVC protective sleeve.

The standard set included a limited edition of 1,500 individually numbered copies on silver and black marbled vinyl. A black vinyl variant was also available. An At the Movies Shop exclusive edition was available on white and black marbled vinyl, and was limited to only 300 units. Each set was sold separately for €34.99, or all three were available in a complete bundle for a discounted price of €99.99.

The Last of Us Part II: Covers and Rarities restock[]

Mondo announced a limited restock of their physical release of The Last of Us Part II: Covers and Rarities, pressed on either color or black 180 gram vinyl.[7]
