The Last of Us Design Contest was a fan art design contest held in late 2013 to celebrate the four-month anniversary of The Last of Us. The contest was hosted by We Love Fine, with judging and prizes provided by Naughty Dog. The contest ran from October 15 to November 11, 2013. From over 360 submissions, a total of five winners were selected (1 Grand Prize winner and 4 Judges' Pick winners). The five winners each received a cash prize ($1160 for the Grand Prize and $400 for each of Judges' Pick winners) and various other The Last of Us themed prizes.[1][2][3][4]

History[]

Format[]

Participants could download a "Submission Kit" from We Love Fine's website, which contained a PDF with guidelines for all submissions. This PDF specified the ideal image ratios, dimensions, and instructions for creating a mock-up of the design on a T-shirt. All entries were to be either a GIF, PNG, or JPG image, and participants were allowed to submit up to five entries.[2] The Grand Prize winner was chosen by community vote. The two runner-up winners were chosen by voice actors Troy Baker (voice of Joel) and Ashley Johnson (voice of Ellie). The final two winners (Special Prize winners) were chosen by Neil Druckmann (Creative Director) and Bruce Straley (Game Director).[4] Community voting started eight days after the submission window closed and ran until December 17, 2013. At which time the final judging period began. The winners were posted on We Love Fine's website on January 16, 2014,[1] and the winning designs were available for purchase on T-shirts and other items, also on We Love Fine's website.[3]

Winners[]

The grand prize winner was Brandon Meier with a design titled "Endure" which was inspired by the hunting sequence in the winter chapter of The Last of Us. Troy Baker's Judges' Pick was a design titled "All Alone" created by Ryan Brosnan. Ashley Johnson's Judges' Pick was a design titled "Killin' Time" created by Feli Tomkinson. Neil Druckmann's Judges' Pick was a design titled "Clicker Nouveau" created by Jillian Hansen. Bruce Straley's Judges' Pick was a design titled "Joel & Ellie" created by Catherine Unger.[3][5]
