- The Nighthawk's real name, Jerry Lavelle, is a reference to a deceased Naughty Dog employee who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. He served in the US Air Force, was an Iraq War Veteran and had a career as an air traffic controller in Buffalo. The Nighthawk's origin story as an Air Force recruit and his powers being related to flying are a clear homage to Jerry's history. The late Lavelle enjoyed running tabletop game campaigns as a game master (GM) and said he liked to go by the Nighthawk when asked for a fun fact about himself on his first day at the studio.[citation needed]
