What do you guys think happened after she died. Did Joel bury her? Or hid her in the bushes. I don't think he'd leave her like that he just doesnt seem like he could do it but it would have been hard to dig a hole for her body too.
I see either Tommy or Joel attacking the soldier who killed her, the other trying to drag them off. I imagine it'll be Joel, and this is what starts him down the road from the moral, hard-working honest man we see at the start of the game to the man we see 20 years later who can fight, steal, and kill without a second thought.
I think the military would take control of any bodies, including Sarahs, in an effort to control the spread of the infection, even though Sarah wasn't infected. Once it's realised that she's not infected, I think she would either be given a basic 'proper' burial, or if things are already getting out of hand and time doesn't allow for that, she might unfortunately end up in a mass grave. Joel and Tommy would've been thrown in jail for attacking the soldier and wouldn't know. That's the real reason Tommy goes back...trying to find Sarahs grave. Joel, as we know, refuses to talk about Sarah at all, so it wouldn't make sense for him to go back. He hasn't moved on, really...he's simply put the grief and loss to the back of his mind as he tried to survive.
First of all, Tommy shot and killed the soldier that killed Sarah and wounded Joel. As for the bodies, I imagine that they would have hidden the soldier's body and at least tried to bury Sarah. Soldiers usually have a collapsable shovel/pick axe combo as part of their equipment. After that, they probably went to get help for Joel, since he was wounded. Given the chaos of that night, it wouldn't be hard to make up a lie when they got to an aid station as to how Joel got injured (shot by looters, etc.).
It's an interesting question to bring up. Joel clearly loved Sarah very much so under normal circumstances he might bury her, but for all he and Tommy knew they could have been surrounded by infected, army people, or both. There might just not have enough time.
Joel was probably hit at least once by gunfire, but he seemed relatively intact right after. It might have just been the adrenaline--but if it was serious, they'd need some medical care. Conveniently, there was an ambulance right behind them which is bound to have some gauze or painkillers in there at least. Maybe they could have turned it over and driven out of there? In that case it wouldn't be a stretch for them to take Sarah's corpse with them to give it a proper burial.
He buried her. But I believe Joel didn't buried Sarah right away. I think he was really shocked or tramuatized about her death and he carry her dead body while he and Tommy was traveling and then Tommy convinced Joel to buried her. Yeah I know it sound ridiculous. :)

that was probably sarahs grave at tommys dam
I HIGHLY doubt this. The beginning of the game took place in Texas, and the dam is in Wyoming. That's...a very long distance to lug the (bloated, decomposing) corpse of a child under normal circumstances, let alone a time where fuel, food, and ammunition are scarce and any non-essential frivolity could mean death.
That and the fact that before Tommy went to the dam, it's implied that he was a hunter with Joel for a while before becoming disillusioned with their way of life and joining the Fireflies, before becoming disillusioned with THEM and heading towards said dam. Even using generous estimates and saying that he, say, spent a week with Joel then a week with the Fireflies and then trekked allllllll the way from Texas/wherever he was to Wyoming, that's...a long way and time to drag a body.
Tommy also has dialog where he specifically states they've been at the dam for a few weeks, maybe he says months, I can't remember exactly. The point is, he's been at the dam for less than a year and the events of the game take place 20 years after Sarah's death. So either
1. He was carrying his niece's body around for 19+ years
2. When he "went back home" he retreived her remains and re-buried, or perhaps buried them for the first time, at the dam. Which would be weird, but technically possible.
What's much more likely is that it isn't Sarah's grave. It seems not to be the grave of of a teenager but an infant or small child, hence Joel's remark that it was too damn small. It also seems fairly fresh. The most likely thing to have happenned to Sarah's body was that Joel and Tommy were forced to abandon it. Tommy had just killed a soldier, they were apparently in an area that the millitary had designated forbidden and was just executing anyone they found there, so they were going to have to move on quickly if they wanted to survive. They might have carried her a little way, but they would obviously have to avoid any contact with authorities. They were in as much danger from the military and other people as they were from infected. They would have had to leave her, making it even more traumatic for Joel. I would say at best her body would have been thrown in a mass grave by the army, at worst devoured by infected. Sorry to be morbid, but it explains a lot about the person Joel became. Dead inside, someone who puts no particular value on human life. Someone who is able to, as far as he knows, sign the death warrant for the human race to save someone who he was able to feel for again. Someone that may not neccessarily have wanted to be saved, and in any case still has a better chance of dying a violent death than any kind of happy ending.
I'm still going with my theory that Joel and/or Tommy probably buried Sarah's body using the soldier's entrenching tool. They may not have had much time to dig a proper grave, but as long as the body is covered up, it serves the same purpose.
