Hello everyone! To celebrate The Last of Us Day 2021, The Last of Us Wiki has a new design as well as plenty of updates! This update brings a new look to the main page, templates, and practically the wiki as a whole. One of the goals of this redesign was to slightly brighten and modernize the wiki but still retain that dark, gritty feeling known to The Last of Us series. Another was to update from the outdated coding used in the wiki's previous state. Down below are details on the new updates:
New theme design[]
The wiki's dark theme
The wiki's overall theme and appearance is one of the biggest changes in this update. The wiki's wordmark is now the Fireflies logo and the community name uses the Press Gothic font popular with The Last of Us series (this change is one of my personal favorites in this update). The header image of the wiki's dark theme features concept art of Joel and Ellie walking through an overgrown area. The wiki now uses a bright yellow accent color that was once used on The Last of Us' website, used prominently on all wiki templates to help them pop out on the page a bit more. The page background now uses a gritty asset that was also used on the website.
Light theme[]
The wiki's light theme
With the release of the FandomDesktop skin a few months ago, Fandom introduced a feature where wikis have both a light and dark theme that users are able to choose from. However, our wiki's light theme was poorly designed and didn't fully function with all the templates.
This new update ensures that our light theme is fully functional and has its own unique design. The theme is fully ported to all templates and the main page. The colors use an orange accent, an accent color that was used on The Last of Us' website, and even our wiki many years ago. The header image features concept art of Abby and Lev riding horseback through a burning Haven. With Joel and Ellie featured in the header for the dark theme, I wanted Abby and Lev to be represented as well similar to how The Last of Us Part II's story is told, all while matching the orange theme.
Templates[]
Almost all of the wiki templates, including infoboxes, navboxes, tables, quotes, notice templates (or message boxes/hatnotes), and more have been updated to newer coding and/or were redesigned to appear brighter and more modern. Many of the previous template designs were monotonous and blended in with the dark page background. Using the wiki's accent color and using brighter colors ensures that templates are easily identifiable and make them "pop".
Main page[]
The wiki's main page
The wiki's main page was also updated. The portal template received a visual update and almost all of the main page sections were updated. We're retiring the featured videos section as well as our affiliates program, and re-introducing our "Did you know..." section (please suggest new facts, I know there are plenty out there!). The right rail features our community sections such as our Discord server, blog posts, Naughty Dog's Twitter, and many community links.
Other changes[]
There are several other changes in the new update, including:
- The wiki is converting to sentence case capitalization, meaning anything that isn't considered a proper noun should be lowercased in article titles, headings, and page text. If you see any instances of title casing being used, please edit the article or rename the page!
- The top navigation has been reorganized.
- The new
{{n}}template. For small tags in parentheses that are commonly used in infoboxes and organized lists, you now only have to type{{n|value}}instead of<small>(value)</small>. - The new
{{g}}template. This template is used in infoboxes to include an icon for a group (for example, in the "Affiliation(s)" section in character infoboxes). To add an icon, simply type{{g|group name}}, wheregroup nameequals one of the six available groups:Fireflies,Hunters,WLF,Seraphites,Rattlers, orFEDRA.
