Biography

Background

Not much is known about Vanessa's background, except that she was born years after the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak and lived with her mother in the community of survivors in Jackson, Wyoming. She was still a young child as of January 1, 2029.

Events of HBO's The Last of Us

Season 2

On January 1, 2029, Vanessa was present at the Tipsy Bison alongside her mother and many other residents of Jackson. She listened to Tommy deliver a speech outlining the town's protocols to follow in the event of an attack by raiders or infected. Noticing her seated in the front row, Tommy playfully asked if she knew what to do if they were attacked. She responded that they should hide in the forest, prompting laughter from some in the crowd. Tommy quipped that hiding in the forest would be "a bad idea" and clarified to the audience that the actual plan was for children like Vanessa and the elderly to shelter in their basements, while able-bodied adults would defend the town from the rooftops.
